Ketoconazole shampoo

Everyone is dreaming about beautiful, healthy hair. But very often dandruff ruins the look. How to get rid of dandruff is a common question that must be answered. There are vast amount of shampoos, scrubs and masks that said to be good against dandruff, but most of them are fighting symptoms not the actual cause – fungus infection.
.
Ketoconazole shampoo is used for treating diseases related to problems with head skin. It is an anti-fungal treatment for local use. It has strong antifungal activity. Shampoo with ketoconazole rapidly reduces flaking and itching that commonly is associated with dandruff, pityriasis versicolor and seborrheic eczema. Ketoconazole shampoo also is used for curing pityriasis – a fungal infection that causes lightening or darkening of the skin of different parts of body such as head, neck, feet, back.
.
You can use ketoconazole shampoo not only for treatment, but also as a prophylaxis. Though when using it as a method of prevention it is usually used less frequently. About once a week or once a two weeks.
.
Ketoconazole shampoo is also known as a treatment for hair loss for men. Some single research claimed that ketoconazole is almost as good as a proven hair loss treatment minoxidil 2%. The research says “Hair density and size and proportion of anagen follicles were improved almost similarly by both ketoconazole and minoxidil regimens”. But still the mechanism by which ketoconazole affects hair loss is pretty unclear. And it is not approved as a hair loss treatment by the Food and Drug Administration of USA. Only as a treatment of dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp.
.
Ketoconazole itself is a synthetic drug. It is used to treat skin and fungal infections.

Using ketoconazole shampoo:
Use Ketoconazole shampoo with caution. It is more like a treating mask than a shampoo. Apply it on the head skin and hair gently leaving it for about 3-5 minutes so the skin could soak those healing particles. Wash your hair with ketoconazole shampoo twice a week for a period of 3-4 weeks. For a preventive use wash your hair once a week or once a two weeks. Avoid eye contact.
.
Contraindications:
Don’t use ketoconazole shampoo if you have hypersensitivity to one of its components.
